Free access journals

The usual problem for strength and conditioning coaches and sports scientists not attached to academic institutions is the access to quality scientific journals. Subscriptions are quite high and being able to access many resources can be quite a luxury.

There is however a list of valuable resources that provide access to scientific articles for free.

The first resource I recommend every reader is the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine. The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine (JSSM) is a non-profit making scientific electronic journal, publishing research and review articles, together with case studies, in the fields of sports medicine and the exercise sciences. JSSM is published quarterly in March, June, September and December. It has recently gained an impact factor (currently 0.290). This editorial effort represents a very good idea to eliminate costs of page charges and make resources available for free.

Free access to a selection of medical journals is also available on www.freemedicaljournals.com.

Over the next few years, many important medical journals will be hopefully available online, free and in full-text. There is also hope that Open access medical textbooks will soon become the standard in medical publishing allowing everyone to be able to read and access scientific resources anytime, anywhere!

Unfortunately there is a limited list of Free journals in Sports Medicine, however, a decent list of journals from other relevant areas is available.
